Dogs really are man’s best friend, with roughly over a quarter of the population owning one. They can be a joy to be around and can even help people when they are feeling down. However, dogs do not have the same advantage as humans when it comes to communication. The only way they know how to communicate with you is through their barks and body language. Here are a few body language tips you can look out for in your pet pooch.

When your dog is happy, overall he will appear more confident. They will stand tall with their tail high in the air. You may also notice that the tail will be wagging a lot too. Your dog’s mouth will appear to be slightly open, and some people even swear that their dog is smiling at them.

A playful dog will have a lot of the same type of body language as a happy dog. Although you may also notice that their tail will wag more rapidly, and sometimes it’s almost as if their bum is wiggling too.

If your dog is scared you may notice that their stance is tense, and he may even start to shiver. Your dog’s tail might curl up between their legs, their ears will sometimes become pinned back to their head, and on occasions they may also bear their teeth and even growl.

An aggressive dog, is one which you certainly do not want to be around, so it is important you realise the body language of one. If your dog is aggressive, he will almost certainly be showing you his teeth, and growling at you. They will have their head straight, ears pinned back, and narrowed eyes.

If you own a dog, or are planning to get one, then it is vital you understand a dog’s body language so you learn how to communicate well with them.

People lie every day, whether it be just a little white lie, or a huge one that can impact another person’s life. Which ever way you look at it, being lied to is not a good experience, and sometimes it can be hard to tell if someone is telling the truth or not. But the good news is there is a way to find out if you are talking to a liar, and that is to take a good look at their body language.

If you suspect that someone may be telling you a lie, then keep a close watch on their hands. Someone who is lying might move their hand close to their mouth to try and cover up what they are saying. They may also fiddle around with their eyes, and nose.

If someone is telling you lies they might also start puling at their clothes, as they start to feel hot and uncomfortable. You should also check to see if their hiding their palms or showing them, as hiding their palms may be a sign that they are not being totally open and honest.

Another thing to look out for if you think you are being lied to is the persons eyes. Someone who is lying won’t look directly in your eyes. In fact they may even try and avoid eye contact altogether, by looking at the floor or ceiling. You may also notice that the person you are speaking to will blink a lot. This is another way to subconsciously avoid eye contact with you.

Someone who is lying to you when you ask them a question, will often try and quickly change the subject. The reason why they do this is so they don’t have to lie to you in the first place.

When it comes to reading a persons body language then looking at their eyes is a great way to start. As the saying goes, someones eyes can be like the windows to their soul. When looking into their eyes you can usually tell exactly what they are thinking and feeling, without them having to utter a word. Here is a short list of things to look out for next time you are trying to work out what someone is feeling by looking into their eyes.

When someone is gazing at you intently when you are talking, it could mean that they are greatly interested in what you have to say. This can also mean that they may be interested in you romantically, especially if you notice that their pupils are dilated.

If you notice that someone is glancing away from you whilst you are talking to them this could mean that they are trying to look for an excuse to get away. This is especially true if you notice them glancing at the doorway or window. Glancing can also mean a desire for the object they are glancing at.

Someone who is lying will often have very shifty looking eyes. Their eyes will dart to the left and right, indicating that they are looking for somewhere to escape. If they look down then this could mean that they fear that they have been found out. Similarly if someone squints at you whilst you are talking this could mean that they suspect you are lying to them.

When someone looks up when you are talking it could mean that they are thinking about what you have to say. Maybe you have just asked them a question, and they are trying to remember the answer. Looking up can also mean someone is getting annoyed, and are trying to find a way out of the conversation.

We have all been there, in a bar, a club, or even at a friends house, when we meet the person of our dreams, and we simply don’t know if they feel the same way. The problem is on those first few meetings, it can be hard to figure out if they are just as attracted to you, as you are to them, because it isn’t very likely they will come straight out and tell you. Luckily there is one way you can find out if the attraction is mutual, and that is to look at their body language.

The first tell tale sign of attraction with body language is someones eyes. Do they gaze at you and look deep into your eyes when you are talking to them? Are their pupils dilated? Is their gaze accompanied with a lovely smile? If you answered yes to any of those questions, then there is a good chance that they feel the same way you do.

You can also look at the way they a sitting or standing when you are with them. When someone is attracted to you they will usually lean forward with their shoulders pointing directly towards you. If you are sitting down then look at the way they are sitting. Are they sitting with their legs crossed, and their hands tight in their laps? Or are they sitting with their legs slightly open? An open posture generally means they may feel some attraction towards you.

Another sign of attraction in body language is someones wrists or palms. Next time you are talking to the possible love of your life, have a look and see if their palms and wrists are exposed. If they are, then this is a common yet subtle sign of attraction.

In recent years the study of body language has become increasingly popular, and many more people has begun to realise just how important it is to be able to interpret it. Did you know that over 50% of our communication done with other people is non verbal, which means we use our body language and facial expressions more than we use actual words to let someone know how we feel.

Most of the time our body language is something that we cannot control, it is our body’s natural reaction to certain situations. For example someone who is lying may give off certain signals subconsciously through their body and expressions that tells the other person that they may not be telling the truth.

Similarly, someone who is attracted to you may also give you signals from the way they look at you, and the way their body reacts around you. However it is not always easy to read these signals, and this is something you may have to learn to do by studying body language.

If you can learn to understand the basic concepts of body language then you can also use it to your advantage in your every day situations. For example, you can become more confident if you use confident body language in difficult situations, like in a job interview, or when you are standing on a stage.

There are many places online (including this site) where you can learn all about how body language works, and how to interpret it. Like mentioned above over half of our communication is non-verbal, and if you truly want to know what someone really means when they are talking to you, then it is something that must be learnt.
